Senior Research Analyst
Craig Moffett has been elected to Institutional Investor Magazine’s All-American Research Team in the U.S. Telecom and/or Cable & Satellite sectors on fifteen separate occasions, including nine separate appearance as the #1 analyst in America in either U.S. Telecom and/or Cable & Satellite. He has also been rated the #1 analyst in the U.S. Telecommunications sector by Bloomberg Markets, and he has consistently ranked #1 in Research Quality in Greenwich Research’s annual survey in both Telecommunications and U.S. Cable and Satellite sectors.
Prior to founding MoffettNathanson, Mr. Moffett spent more than ten years at Sanford Bernstein & Co., LLC as a senior research analyst. In 2011 he became the first analyst in the firm’s history to be ranked #1 in two sectors simultaneously by Institutional Investor.
He was previously the President and founder of the e-commerce business at Sotheby’s Holdings, the venerable auction house. In 1999, he led Sothebys.com to what was then the highest first year sales of any consumer website ever launched.
Mr. Moffett spent more than eleven years at The Boston Consulting Group, where he was a Partner and Vice President specializing in telecommunications. He was the leader of BCG’s global Telecommunications practice from 1996 to 1999. While at BCG, he led client initiatives in the U.S. local, long distance, and wireless sectors, in both consumer and commercial services, and advised companies outside the U.S. in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. His relationship with a U.S. RBOC spanned more than a decade, and he was the author of more than 20 articles about the telecommunications industry during the 1990s. He published analyses and forecasts of the overcapacity and pending collapse of the U.S. long distance business as early as 1998. Mr. Moffett graduated from Harvard Business School with Honors in 1989. He received a BA from Brown University phi beta kappa in 1984.
Senior Research Analyst
Michael Nathanson is a Senior Research Analyst at MoffettNathanson, covering both the Media industry and the leading Digital Advertising companies. For the past decade, Nathanson has been consistently named one of the leading Media analysts in the U.S. by Institutional Investor Magazine.
Prior to co-founding MoffettNathanson with Craig Moffett in 2013, Nathanson worked at Sanford Bernstein from 1998 to 2010 and at Nomura from 2010 to 2013. Before he began working on Wall Street, Nathanson held strategic planning and financial analysis positions at Time Warner, Cablevision and MGM. He received a B.A. from Brandeis University and a master's degree from the Yale School of Management. Nathanson lives in Scarsdale, NY with his wife and two children.
Director, Institutional Sales
Patrick O'Connell covers accounts in the Northeastern United States, Canada, and Continental Europe. Pat worked in Sales at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., LLC for 11 years, where he covered Institutional accounts, was a Managing Director and Regional Sales Manager. Before joining Bernstein, he was in Business Development at an internet startup Atlas Commerce, and at Goldman Sachs in Corporate Bond Sales. Pat started his career in Network Advertising sales at NBC, where he held different positions in sales and planning, including Sports Sales Manager. Pat earned his BA from Colgate University, and an MBA from Kellogg at Northwestern University. He lives in New Canaan, CT with his wife and four children.
Director, Institutional Sales
Ethan Steinberg covers U.S. accounts in the West Coast, Midwest and Texas, as well as accounts across Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Australia and Africa. Prior to joining MoffettNathanson, he worked for 10 years in Institutional Sales at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., LLC in New York and Los Angeles. At Bernstein, Ethan covered the firm's largest accounts on the West Coast. Earlier in his career, Ethan held a number of senior sales and business development positions at venture-backed technology companies in the Silicon Valley. He began his professional career practicing transactional law in the Bay Area. Ethan holds a BA from Brandeis University, from which he graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He earned a JD degree from Stanford Law School where he was Law Review Editor. Ethan is a member of the California Bar. He lives in Santa Monica with his wife and son.
John Towers, CFA
Director, Institutional Sales
John covers accounts in New York, New Jersey, Maryland and the United Kingdom. Prior to joining MoffettNathanson, John worked in Institutional Sales at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., LLC for 17 years. Earlier in his career John worked in magazine publishing for Harris Publications. John earned a BA from Denison University, a MBA from Fordham University. John is a CFA charterholder. He lives in Manhasset, NY and is married with three children.
Chief Operating Officer and Director of Research
Mr. Rietbrock is the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Research at MoffettNathanson. He was previously Head of Global Equity Research and Co-Head of US Equites for Nomura Securities. He has also held senior management positions at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Caxton Associates and Citigroup, where he was the #1 ranked Lodging & Gaming analyst for a decade. Mr. Rietbrock serves on the Board of Directors of MGM Growth Properties, and on the Board of Trustees of The Ideal School of Manhattan. He received an AB in Economics from Harvard College.
Chief Compliance Officer
Elin serves as Chief Compliance Officer of MoffettNathanson. Previously, Elin was Director and Head of Business Unit Compliance for CIT Group Inc. Elin was a member of the Compliance senior management team with responsibility for the US business compliance programs. Prior to CIT Elin was at Societe Generale where she served as Managing Director, Head of Global Markets Compliance and Deputy Director to the Chief Compliance Officer. Elin also held senior compliance positions at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. and Banc of America Securities. She holds a JD from the University of Denver College of Law and received her BA, cum laude, from the University of Colorado. Elin is married with two children and lives in Westfield, New Jersey.
Adam has over 22 years of research, investing and advisory experience at Qatalyst, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan and Hambrecht & Quist. Most recently, Adam led the software practice at Qatalyst Partners, an M&A and capital advisory firm. During Adam’s tenure, Qatalyst announced or completed over $60B worth of software transactions including four of the largest software deals ever—the sale of Informatica to Permira for $5.4B, Concur to SAP for $8.3B, Netsuite to Oracle for $9.4B and LinkedIn to Microsoft for $28.1B. At Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan, Adam was ranked as the #1 software analyst on the Institutional Investor All-American Team in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and ranked #1 for six years in the Greenwich Institutional poll. Adam participated in more than 50 equity offerings totaling more than $8B in value that created over $100B in market cap. Adam has also helped lead roughly a dozen private investments. Past public clients include Advent Software, Blackbaud, Financial Engines, Microsoft, Oracle, Palo Alto Networks, Qliktech, Responsys, Salesforce, ServiceNow, SolarWinds, Splunk, SuccessFactors, Taleo, VMware and Workday. At Qatalyst, Adam helped lead transactions for Advent, CA, Citrix, Concur, Datalogix, Genesys, Informatica, Intuit, LinkedIn, Netsuite, RelateIQ and others. Adam
graduated Cum Laude from Princeton University with a B.A. in Religious Studies and lives in San Francisco with his wife and two daughters.
Nick Del Deo
Nick Del Deo covers U.S. Communications Infrastructure (Towers and Internet Infrastructure) for MoffettNathanson and has been named a Rising Star of Wall Street Research by Institutional Investor magazine. Nick joined MoffettNathanson at its inception in May 2013, covering the U.S. Telecommunications and U.S. Cable and Satellite sectors with Craig Moffett. Nick was previously a vice president at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., joining the firm in 2008 to cover the sectors with Craig. Prior to joining Bernstein, Nick was a senior associate at Morgan Stanley Investment Management and was engaged in research and trading for a firm-sponsored hedge fund. Nick has also worked at a start-up hedge fund and was briefly an auditor at Arthur Andersen. Nick graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2001, earning a BS in Economics with concentrations in Finance and Accounting and a BA in Economics, and is also a CFA Charterholder.
Robert Fishman joined MoffettNathanson in August 2013, covering U.S. Media with Michael Nathanson and is the lead analyst on U.S. Theaters. Robert was previously a Vice President at Nomura Securities, joining the firm in 2010 to cover the Media sector with Michael. Prior to Nomura, Robert was a Senior Associate at Bank of America Merrill Lynch covering the same industry group. Robert graduated from McGill University, earning a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance, and is also a CFA Charterholder.
Perry Gold joined MoffettNathanson in April 2015, covering U.S. Internet with Michael Nathanson and is the lead analyst on U.S. Online Travel. Perry was previously a Senior Associate at Goldman Sachs, joining the firm in 2012 to cover the Internet sector. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Perry was an Assistant Vice President at Barclays Capital covering the same industry group, and before that he was a Junior Research Associate at Sanford C. Bernstein covering a series of sectors including U.S. Gaming, Lodging, and Leisure, U.S. Restaurants, and U.S. Specialty Pharmaceuticals. Perry graduated from Lehigh University in 2008, earning a B.S. in Computer Science & Business as well as a B.S. in Finance.
